Welcome to Music Theory I

In this class, we will explore and develop your understanding of how music is structured, created, and performed. We will analyze musical works from a variety of musical styles and genres, applying what we learn to performance and composition on our own instruments and the keyboard, as well as analytical listening experiences. In our class are students from a variety of musical backgrounds and levels of experience. This diversity will be a benefit when it comes time to work on group projects. Much of the coursework in this class will be done in groups as you create and perform your own original collaborative compositions. You will have the opportunity to apply everything you learn in class to performance on your own instrument, hopefully making the content of this course as practical as possible for you as a developing musician.
